Equinox on a Plate: Autumn Recipes for Balance and Blessing

The Autumn Equinox is a moment of pause—when day and night weigh the same in the sky’s hands. It’s the hinge of the year, where harvest meets letting go. And in your kitchen, it becomes a dance of warm grounding and bright farewell.

To cook for the Equinox is to stir balance into your belly. It’s to honor both what we have gathered and what we must now release.

This scroll offers three dishes to bring your table into harmony, rooted in fall’s richness.

🍠 Roasted Root & Apple Hash

A grounding base with a touch of sweetness

  • 2 sweet potatoes, cubed

  • 1 parsnip, chopped

  • 1 apple (firm and tart), diced

  • 1 small red onion, sliced

  • Olive oil, salt, rosemary, thyme

  • Optional: a handful of walnuts or pumpkin seeds

Directions: Toss all ingredients with oil and herbs. Roast at 400°F for 35–40 minutes, until caramelized. Serve warm with a spoonful of goat cheese or yogurt.

Magic Meaning: Roots connect us to earth, apples to the heart. Together they hold us steady in seasonal shift.

🥣 Honey-Miso Squash Soup

Silky, nourishing, and just a little wild

  • 1 butternut squash, peeled and chopped

  • 1 onion

  • 3 cups broth

  • 1 tbsp miso paste

  • 1 tbsp honey

  • Ginger, salt, cracked pepper

Directions: Roast squash until tender. Sauté onion and ginger, add squash and broth. Simmer, then blend. Stir in miso and honey off heat.

Magic Meaning: Miso brings depth, honey brings blessing. This soup feeds both body and soul.

🍇 Autumn Equinox Bread with Grapes & Sage

A fragrant, slightly sweet bread for offerings and feasting

  • 3 cups flour

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 tsp yeast

  • 1 tbsp sugar or honey

  • 1 cup warm water

  • Handful of halved grapes

  • Chopped fresh sage

  • Olive oil drizzle

Directions: Mix, knead, rise. Fold in grapes and sage. Shape, rest, then bake at 375°F for 30–35 minutes.

Serve as centerpiece bread at your Equinox table. Tear, not slice. Let it be shared in a circle.

Set your table with fallen leaves, light a candle for each direction. Say grace to the land. Taste the balance.
